while, whereas, whenever

while

While is used to express contrast OR to mean 'at that time'.

We put a comma before while if we use it to express a CONTRAST:

We don’t put a comma if we use while to mean AT THAT TIME:

whereas 

Similar to while, whereas is also used to express contrast.

People say bangs in America, whereas in Britain they call it a fringe.

whenever 

Unlike the while and whereas, wherever is used for repeated events or events whose date or time is uncertain. 

Whenever Carolin sees me, she comes to greet me.

Other Examples:

The universe is big, while we are small.

I can’t sleep while the TV is on.

I saw her while I was walking the dog.

I am good at football, whereas she is good at basketball.

Whenever I get in the shower, the phone rings.
